We first make our habits, and then our habits make us — John Dryden

8 months ago I was desperate to change my life as I felt lost and the place I was in, you could say wasn’t the best place anyone will want to be, but destiny had some other plans for me.

One day I stumbled on a youtube video talking about how someone can change their life through habits, at first I was like cut the crap out but as time went by I found myself more and more interested in it, and today I can say that habits really changed my life, you could argue that 8 months isn't a long time for someone to change his/her life but it was enough for me and here I am, chasing my dreams and trying to live my life to the fullest.

and I wanna share with you the habits that truly changed my life and still changing it:

Set a goal: The thing is you can't just change your life by saying I wanna change it, you need to be more specific about what area of your life you exactly wanna change and once you know that, be more specific, set a time for it and describe what exactly you wanna do.

Change how you speak to yourself: I believe by now you have read this a million times but it is true, you are what you tell yourself more like you are your own thoughts, just imagine if you keep telling yourself negative stuff on a daily basis then that's what your body and mind will reciprocate, what you tell yourself becomes your reality,

Read: Reading was the thing that impacted my life the most, in the past few months, I went from someone who never reads to someone who reads daily, and looking at the profession I am in now the only way to write is to read, so you need to start reading and making it a daily habit, even two pages can make a difference just start somewhere and I love how Lin Yutang describes reading

Compare the difference between the life of a man who does no reading and that of a man who does. The man who has not the habit of reading is imprisoned in his immediate world, in respect to time and space. His life falls into a set routine; he is limited to contact and conversation with a few friends and acquaintances, and he sees only what happens in his immediate neighborhood. From this prison, there is no escape.

But the moment he takes up a book, he immediately enters a different world, and if it is a good book, he is immediately put in touch with one of the best talkers in the world.

Spend time with the right people: I am not saying here you should spend all your time with some successful people but they say that you are the five people you spend your time with and it is not a lie, you will sooner or later pick up their habits and one-way today's world is amazing is that you don’t need to personally meet with amazing people, you just have to follow them on social media.

Routine: Make a routine for yourself because It allows for easier integration of habits in your life, I like to divide my daily routine into three parts a morning routine to stimulate the body and mind, an afternoon routine that relieves stress, and an evening routine that helps the body stay fit.

With any habits, you are about to start:

start small, be intentional, and make the habit as easy as possible.

and as you venture into your life and start these new habits I will recommend you read atomic habits by James clear that book is a life-changer.

finally,

Habit is a cable; we weave a thread of it each day, and at last we cannot break it. — Horace Mann
